Foods That Keep You Cool In The Summer
Summer is here and during these hot months, we all want to keep our cool. Why is it important to stay cool? Because we want to maintain the balance in our minds and bodies. Too much heat not only has you feeling hot, sweaty, and uncomfortable, but it also affects your mood and mindset. You become more prone to impatience, anger, frustration, burnout, as well as experience physical ailments like inflammation, heartburn, and indigestion.
Aside from swimming in the ocean, taking a dip in the pool, or running your AC on blast, another way to find some relief from the heat is by consuming cooling foods and drinks. Now this doesn’t mean drink everything “iced” or eat anything cold because as we know, that weakens our agni (digestive fire) and we always want to keep our agni strong to maintain the strength of our immune system. There are actually certain foods, herbs, and spices that naturally have a cooling effect on the body. For those of you who are Pitta dominant, you’ll most likely need more cooling foods because you naturally run hotter. Since Vatta and Kapha dominant folks naturally run cooler, too much cooling foods will knock them out of balance. So make sure to pay attention to how you’re feeling and to not go overboard.
